Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome

Chronic hyperventilation syndrome can oocur while scuba diving for a half an hour or at a fairground ride where a person can start to feel dizzy. Dizziness like this is normal, but, if other factors as well as dizziness affects them psycologically, the person could be suffering from chronic hyperventilation syndrome or HVS for short.

Chronic hyperventilation syndrome is osten associated with an anxiety attack or other psycological problems. A person with this syndrome can feel shortness of breath.  At the same time, deep breathing is not always a sign of HVS. Chronic hyperventilation syndrome can be discovered if any the following symptoms are strongly visible:

· The hands and fingers have uncomfortable cramps

· Both hands and feet are cold

· The person is suffering excessive anxiety and tension

· Tightness or numbness around the lips

· Feeling dizzy

· Chest often palpitates and the person keeps on breathing deeply

Although typically these are symptoms of chronic hyperventilation syndrome, it has already been said that diagnosis is really important because sometimes, these symptoms can be because of other ailments rather than HVS.

Often, chronic hyperventilation syndrome can be generated by other medical problems.  Stress is also among the top reasons for causing HVS.

Someone having chronic hyperventilation syndrome is always going to be conscious, otherwise, it is not HVS. A persons body experiencing HVS has a lower rate of carbon dioxide because of fast breathing. Worse problems of HVS can lead to respiratory problems like an itchy sensation of the tips of the person’s fingers.

Chronic hyperventilation syndrome also causes the person to suffer other respiratory, nervous, and gastrointestinal problems. Yawning or wheezing and shortness of breath are usually the problems that happen if the person is experiencing HVS. Dryness of mouth, stomach pains, and bloating on the other hand, fall on the gastro area. The nerves also become more sensitive as for the nervous problems.

If the person hyperventilates, they need to raise the amount of carbon dioxide in their body to avoid other problems. To raise the amount of carbon dioxide in their body, people can breathe through a paper bag or to breathe slowly through one of their nostrils. At the same time, some physicians do not recommend the paper bag method because too much carbon dioxide might be taken in.

To relieve a person suffering from chronic hyperventilation syndrome, there are simple things that they could do and must continue to do. That includes regular exercise as well as breathing exercises. These two will have a long time effect if properly executed.

It can be life threatening to ignore the symptoms of chronic hyperventilation syndrome. Relying too much on the self-help remedy is not advisable because as what it has been mentioned, proper diagnosis and a physician’s advice must be considered first and foremost. And finally, avoid the stress-causing activities and find time to relax.
